If you’ve always hung drapery rods just inches above a window frame, you may be missing an opportunity to elevate the style of your rooms. This homeowner used simple drapery panels from Pottery Barn to add decorative oomph to the room and hung the rod high above the window to create the illusion of a taller window and higher ceiling.

Tip: For today’s clean-lined modern look, avoid puddling draperies on the floor and pass on tassled tie-backs that break the vertical line of the drapery panels.
