How to: Make springtime centerpieces using papered containers
Springtime flowers don’t need much help to make them the star of this season’s tabletops. Simple bunches of blooms become magical when staged in everyday containers wrapped in vivid, patterned papers. These centerpieces are simple, stunning and require only a few minutes to create, from start to finish.
Materials and tools needed:
Scissors, round containers (jars, drinking glasses, tin cans), wallpaper, tape or adhesive, flowers
| Gather Containers Collect cylindrical glasses, jars, cans and cups of varied heights and circumference. Choose containers that work best with your flowers—tulips display best in taller vases while shorter peonies suit a stockier vase. | |
![]() | Cut Wallpaper or Wrapping Paper Use the container’s height and circumference as a guide when cutting the paper wrap to fit the vase. For larger patterned papers, make certain the cut paper includes a representative portion of the graphic. Use double-sided tape or adhesive to connect the paper to itself once it has been wrapped around the container. Use assorted patterns with varied colors to create an interesting, yet visually cohesive grouping.
![]() | Cut and arrange the flowers Fill container with water. Select a single variety of flowers for each container; cut the stems short so that the bunched arrangement appears full and robust.
![]() | Create a centerpiece Group the containers on the table, placing the taller containers behind the shorter arrangements. Change water daily to prolong the arrangements’ lives. |
