From the editor – Summer 2011

Get Inspired – Summer 2011

While recently on a plane, I watched a teen gyrate a mixed-up Rubik’s Cube in his nimble fingers and within seconds transform it into a box with solid-colored sides. Today, as decades ago when these infuriating puzzles hit the market, I find others’ ability to solve the 3D demons mind-boggling. To be sure, I’ve never been into puzzles—at least not for fun.

Professionally, it’s part of the job. Imagine the volume and variety of design projects and ideas that come across my desk for consideration. They’re many, diverse and, the majority, worthy of being published. Add the challenge of creating the right mix of decorating styles, talented experts, rousing ideas and assorted locations from across the state for each issue, and you can imagine how puzzle-like the work can be. Sure I’ll never have the capacity to conquer the cube, but I do have a secret weapon that helps me pull the pieces together: inspiration. Its hones in on the “I love that,” “I could do that,” “I must have that” quality that we feature in Utah Style & Design. Inspiring content also rouses dog-earing, marking-up and tearing-out of pages by readers who find it as stirring as I do.

Pick up our Summer 2011 issue. We’re sure it’s destined to become very tattered. Here’s why:

White is all the rage, so we turned to local pros for decorating secrets and their favorite shades. You’ll find fresh, colorful ways to entertain outdoors plus must-try recipes that will win raves. Garden-themed design is in full bloom, and yours for the picking. Got a case of the must-tries? This issue’s homes are over-the-top amazing and will have you marking page after page with “do-this” notes for your own abode.
