Mid-summer garden RX
by Brad Mee

Time to get your garden on:

Have your August gardens given up in summer’s heat? Are you desperate for ideas to help boost their bloom-factor?

Sure you can visit a nursery, but why not take a stroll across the U of U campus for in-the-ground inspiration.

This weekend, I walked from President’s Circle to the Marriott Library and was struck by the mix of flowers flourishing in an assortment of expertly planted gardens, from shaded alleys to the full-sun library plaza.

Annuals, perennials and colorful shrubs come together to create a what-grows-now smorgasbord of mid-summer color.

Planting ideas and strategies are ripe for the picking, so hurry and take a self-guided tour to harvest ideas from these gardens for those at home.
