For many of us in Utah, fall is the best time to head out with the tent or trailer to enjoy the unpopulated natural world. For others, it’s the last few weeks they can enjoy a mountain cabin.
So often we hear people say: If I could just have my own comfortable home and put it in the spot we like to vacation, everything would be perfect. I was preparing my own camp trailer to get away when I made these photos of a home designed and built by the Jaffa Group Design Build in a somewhat secluded section of Promontory populated a large herd of elk with views to a rocky canyon and then out to the ridgeline of the Wasatch with the ski runs. It inspired my thoughts that I can find some beautiful spots and park my A-Liner, but in doing so I leave the comforts of home.
Like many rustic cabins, the open floor plan unites the living area, the dining table, kitchen, and a family nook. Scott Jaffa, architect with the Jaffa Group, has a wonderful touch with these open spaces. He connects them while defining them with the architecture. The open space allows for the group to be together, yet small groups can find space indoors or out for private conversations or for favorite family activities like playing cards or games.
The whole group can gather together for family meals or holiday feasts, and the kitchen has plenty of space for many hands to share the effort.Â
Campers like me are probably most envious of the soaking tub by the fireplace. That’s quite a luxury!
I had a beautiful day for the photographs. The distant views were somewhat hazy. The fires had begun, but the smoke wasn’t as thick as it was a few days later. For many reasons, let’s hope they soon abate.
