By the time some people build a custom home, they really know what they like and what’s important. That is the impression of a new home built by Upland Development I photographed in the established Millcreek neighborhood of Salt Lake Valley.

The kitchen resonates a love for cooking. The plan is spacious and efficient, it’s bright and airy, the lighting is abundant with beautiful fixtures (something that repeats through the home), it has an impressive Lacanche range, and the pantry efficiently lacks a door, but it doesn’t matter because it is hidden behind the range and refrigerator.

The master bedroom and bath reminded me of a luxury hotel with every thought given to comfort and restrained elegance, as exemplified by the marble in the spacious bath and the furnishings and ceiling treatment in the bedroom.

I have never seen a residential floor like the one in the kitchen and hallways where a course of bricks runs down the center flanked by polished hardwood planks. However, it is beautiful and looks very practical for the seasonal problems of tracking in snow and mud.

If I had to sum it up, I would say the home is perfectly customized for a very busy hardworking couple who want to enjoy a lovely dinner together at home and feel refreshed and prepared to start another challenging day with no wasted time—but in a beautiful setting. And thought went into the home to make it work without indulging in extraneous features. It’s exactly custom to their lifestyle.
