Downtown Salt Lake is an increasingly dynamic destination marked by interesting restaurants; choices in entertainment ranging from the arts, music, performances, and sports; shopping; and easy public transportation and bike access. For those who want to live in the center of this excitement, the BRIX Residences just opened with 11 stories and 138 new apartments.

The opening shot showed the northeast corner at dusk. The above photo captures the northwest corner during the day. You can see the glassed social area, and to the side is an entrance to the multi-level underground garage. Atop is the penthouse, designed to capture the mountain views that set Salt Lake apart from most other cities. Okland Construction built the prefabricated metal stud-frame structure, and ajc architects of Salt Lake City designed it.

This is the street-level entrance. Beyond is the mailroom, and there is a gym on this level. The apartments are leased long term through BRIX. There is an option for short-term hospitality stays that are booked through Placemakr. Placemakr’s tech-enabled platform eliminates the need for a check-in desk.

The second level has tall windows that look out to downtown, leasing offices, and an inviting social area. The social lounge has a minimal Scandinavian design feel mixed with loft finishes like polished concrete floors and exposed conduits.

Furniture groupings and area rugs break up the space into conversation areas.

A loft overhangs the western end on the social lounge. We’ll go upstairs and look at it next.

The loft has facilities to prepare and serve refreshments, a bar, and a pool table. The sliding glass doors open to a large patio deck.

There’s plenty of outdoor space perched up several stories to get some fresh air, catch some sun, play cornhole, or converse in front of the fireplace.

As this furnished one-bedroom apartment on the fourth-floor shows, the open-planned kitchen and living room offer a fully equipped kitchen with ample storage, enough living area seating to have a friend over, and a door to the deck.

The kitchen features full-sized appliances and an island with bar seating. To the right is a door to the unit’s laundry.

The spacious bedroom has a bath and walk-in closet attached.
It looked to me like a great apartment for busy professionals or students at the U, and a convenient place to stay if you have business in Salt Lake City for a few days or a week. Traveling for business, I always appreciate a kitchen area. Evening shots come very late, and it’s nice to rustle up some food in the kitchen, especially after all the restaurants have closed.
