When crafting a home for a couple with eclectic taste and a vast collection of art, designer Lauren Bald of A\Typical Design Studio found a blend of materials that allowed the vintage and modern to coexist in perfect harmony. As seen in our print feature Artful Living, Bald and her team worked with EDA Architects to curate a gallery-like home with walls of windows shedding natural light on each of the homeowners’ cherished pieces — from furnishings to paintings and everything in between.

Decked with a low-slung vintage Walter Lamb patio set, the slatted-celar upper patio overlooks the home’s flowing property.

A fully-stocked home coffee bar features a serene view of the courtyard at the center of the home.

Just outside the primary bedroom, a custom dual sconce by Apparatus makes a statement as the lone adornment to the white wall. To the right, a floor-to-ceiling cabinet with hardware by Ochre studio forms the perfect pedestal for iron Kit Howland vessels.

Showcasing the homeowners’ extensive art collection was a key driving force behind this design. Here, a custom table by Hammer & Spear grounds the hallway beneath an inviting artwork by Shonto Begay, sourced via Modern West. Pottery by Ilona Golovinavase.

A custom-upholstered bench sits outside the primary closet, offering a quiet place to don shoes, accessories and clothing while enjoying the view of Ogden’s mountains. Sconce by AND Light.

Floor-to-ceiling St. Laurant marble makes a dramatic statement surrounding the luxurious primary soaker tub.

The lower level’s walk-out patio is a study in balance, featuring angular concrete, steel and glass beneath the upper deck’s warm slatted cedar. Atelier de Troup Sconce. Patio set by A+R Design.

A fossil-inlaid limestone from European Marble & Granite ups the desert vibe in an eclectic guest bath. Modern sconces from In Common With and Allied Maker pair beautifully with a vintage framed mirror, and across the small space a graphic wallpaper by Kneedler depicts a warm desert scene.
