As seen in St. George Parade of homes and our recently released Fall edition, this manor-inspired Southern Utah home mixes classic charm and contemporary flair, thanks to the expertise of House West Design and Strata Homes. At 12,000 square feet, this expansive home required a careful weave of design threads between rooms to ensure a consistent design story. One such thread for these designers was color. “Blue is a fun way to add a pop of color, and in this room we loved the moodiness of the selections.” This lively guest bedroom features pops of color in a vibrantly-upholstered velvet bed and eclectic skirted chair.

For added dimension in a towering 22-foot stairwell. Christensen and Spiers worked with expert craftsmen to include added gold detail on the custom iron railing, as well as an authentic carpet overlay for a traditional touch.

“We wanted to create a beautiful utilitarian space,” says Spiers of the chic butler’s pantry, tucked behind the kitchen range. On one side, visible from the dining room, open shelving and a tile backsplash make up a clever vignette storing entertaining dishes. On the other, walls of cabinets and shelves crafted by Aspen Mills offer ample storage, while providing beautiful contrast to the pantry’s checkerboard tile floor. Counters by Renaissance Counters.

White oak display cabinets on the kitchen’s perimeter sport LED-backed glass doors, delicate millwork and oversize hardware, allowing them to perform almost as furniture, mirroring the banquette and shelving in the nearby living room.

Great thought and attention to detail went into the tile strategy of the primary steam shower. “We did four different tile types in this shower,” says Christensen. “It makes an architecturally interesting moment out of a surprisingly small space. Marble penny tiles create a mosaic on the shower floor, mirroring the larger tiles on the columns and inset shelf. Smooth grey porcelain subway tiles deliver smooth walls, allowing the eye to rest. “We continued the strategy of interesting style in the bunk bath, implementing an accent color in the bath surround and a custom penny tile pattern on the floor,” says Christensen. Carefully curated accessories offer a sense of youthful whimsy: a color-soaked botanical shower curtain, high-contrast patterned wallpaper and woodland-themed hardware tie the bathroom to the adjoining bunk room.

“In St. George we struggle with a lot of concrete in the backyard,” says Spiers. “We always try to find materials to help it feel a little more traditional in the outdoor living space.” In the home’s fun-filled backyard, checkered pavers mirror the floor indoors, and steps up to elevated pergolas help further shade hot tubs and hanging swing loungers from the desert heat.
